Rita Hancock: Nature’s Flow on Canvas

  • Lifelong artist, still passionate at 73
  • Water-soluble oils, nature-inspired landscapes
  • Substitute YMCA art teacher

Rita’s Background
Rita Hancock has been drawn to artistic expression since childhood, beginning with sketching animals and scenery. At 16, she received her first painting set and studied art throughout high school. Though her creative journey was interrupted by family responsibilities and a 29-year career as a Kroger store manager, Rita rekindled her passion after retiring in 2016.
At The YMCA
Finding inspiration and structure at the Wolf Creek YMCA art class, Rita now works with water-soluble oils, creating landscapes inspired by nature’s beauty. At 73, she remains an avid photographer, capturing potential subjects for future paintings.
Rita has also embraced teaching, serving as a substitute art instructor at the YMCA for the past three years. She finds fulfillment in helping others discover their creative talents. Her greatest satisfaction comes from paintings that “flow easily” onto the canvas.
