From a chance meeting at 20 North Gallery in Toledo, we met Ian Dawson who regaled us with stories about his glass blowing adventure and how he worked with the previously featured Tim Spurchise.
In 2012, Toledo native Ian Dawson discovered an unexpected path to healing. During his early recovery from alcohol addiction, Dawson found himself drawn to the ancient craft of blacksmithing, unknowingly taking the first steps toward becoming one of Northwest Ohio’s emerging glass artists.
The spark of creativity first came through metalwork at the Toledo Museum of Art, where Dawson developed his initial artistic skills under Hans Rubel. This foundation in craftsmanship would later prove invaluable when, a decade later, life changes prompted him to explore new creative horizons.
Currently, visitors can experience Dawson’s creations at Bowling Green’s Myla Marcus Winery and various local exhibitions. Rather than focusing on commercial success, he channels his artistic achievements into community support, directing a portion of his sales to various charity organizations.
