The Scribe is a FREE arts focused newspaper specifically for Ohioans. It is also the first ever Ohio-wide arts newspaper. Artists, authors, poets, writers, filmmakers, musicians, and more, can submit their works to The Scribe, and it will be freely promoted for them. Submitting content should be done over email, and all submissions must be related to the arts in some way.

What is The Scribe?

The Scribe is a nonprofit and community-driven arts newspaper that brings Ohio’s vibrant art scene to a location near you! By connecting the community to beautiful art, and the artists behind it, we make art accessible and enjoyable for everyone.

Our model ensures that neither artists, nor the common person, face any significant obstacles towards the viewing of good art. Every issue is thoughtfully crafted to reflect the creativity it celebrates, transforming spaces like coffee shops, waiting rooms, and local businesses by enhancing their atmosphere with local art.

Originally founded in Toledo, The Scribe is expanding across Ohio, now supporting artists in Columbus, Cincinnati, and Cleveland!

Promoting Local Artists

Art is great for our well-being, yet life as an artist can be stressful! Modern artists face many obstacles to their growth, such as income insecurity, and notably, limited visibility and acknowledgment of their work.¹

While art is great for our well-being, artists unfortunately face significant obstacles, such as financial instability and limited visibility of their work. The Scribe addresses these issues by offering free and accessible exposure for Ohio artists, ensuring more of their time and money is spent building their craft.

Email is the best way for us to filter through submissions and keep things organized. We accept submissions of ALL SKILL LEVELS. NSFW or anything illegal will not be accepted. The Scribe is a family friendly newspaper that people of all ages and backgrounds may participate in. A copy of The Scribe should be viewed as a reprieve from any troubles from modern day life, not a reminder.

The Scribe is available at select Ohio businesses, to encourage patrons to support local businesses and organizations, as opposed to a traditional newspaper subscription. We are now reaching a point where production and shipping costs require us to ask for a $10 minimum donation in order to receive a copy. As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, we must still make money to continue to operate. Any donations you make are are tax deductible.

• All copies of The Scribe are 100% FREE and are given to the community at no cost. You may NEVER sell copies for money. Each copy also has print near the header that states the paper is free.
• Each month, your copies will arrive within the first week.
• If you run out of copies or have leftovers, send us an email or recycle the remainders.
